welcome

hi there and welcome! i’m hoping to tell you a bit about me, but don’t imagine that you would be able to know me through a single site. though we live and i work in a digital world, i still believe in the value of analog, in face-to-face communication, and bouncing ideas around over steaming coffees.

with this site, though, my hope is to provide at least a quick introduction to who i am, what i’ve done, and what motivates me. if you want to take me up on the coffee, check out the contact section and start looking for nearby coffee houses.

about me

i think it’s fair to attribute a number of my traits to where i was raised. i’m a child of northeastern ohio, who would move to central kentucky after graduating from miami university of ohio. it was at miami’s outdoor pursuit center that i fell in love with climbing. after graduating with a degree in zoology and environmental science, i briefly worked in youngstown while making the six hour journey every weekend to climb in the red river gorge of kentucky. it didn’t take many late sunday night drives to convince me to move to south to be closer to the rock climbing i loved.

since moving to central kentucky, i found work with an engineering consulting firm. wanting to make an impact on the climbing community, i also involved myself with the red river gorge climbers’ coalition (rrgcc) and worked with fellow climbers, local officials, and area citizens to protect, secure, and expand climbing opportunities in the region.

along with climbing, i occasionally can be found on the soccer field, other times can be found working the gardens around my house, brewing beer with friends, and the rest of the time laughing with my wife.

work

i think it’s fair to say “adaptable”. graduating with a degree in zoology and environmental science, i’ve worked as:

  • an environmental technician investigating and writing phase one environmental site assessments;
  • a gis analyst creating floodplains via geogrocessing;
  • a geodatabase expert that manages quality reviews of database submittals;
  • a php developer creating a first-of-its-kind floodplain information portal;
  • the lead full-stack developer for several enterprise-level applications, including:
  • an analyst processing, reviewing, and reporting hydrographic surveying data;
  • the national technical leader for application development;
  • and most importantly as a friendly, insightful, and compassionate co-worker.

today, i still am working to be adaptable while leading in the spaces i influence. though today the skills i’m applying most at work are focused largely around application development, i am very interested and capable at:

  • leadership and management of teams;
  • strategic plan development and execution; and
  • financial planning and analysis.

if you’re more interested in the technical details, you can see them on my skills details page, though i’ll get on my soapbox briefly: technical skills, especially in application development, are largely temporal whereas “soft” skills like ambition, curiosity, empathy, humility, integrity, honesty, leadership – these are the skills that allow folks to thrive in most any environment.
